This viola was made by Denis Cormier in Montreal in 2017. Its body length measures 16 1/4″.
Denis Cormier has made over 260 violins, violas, and cellos during the last twenty-five years. Their remarkable qualities have been recognized by musicians worldwide.
Between 1975 and 1980, Cormier pursued his violinmaking training under master craftsmen Frédéric Boyer in Paris, and Willem Bouman in The Hague, Holland. He was exposed to the French and German traditions, two influential violinmaking schools, and his apprenticeship spanned both the restoration and the making of the violin. Upon returning to Montréal in 1980, Cormier opened his own workshop where he devotes himself to the crafting of violins, violas, and cellos.
