This violin labeled & by Léon Mougenot Gauché, Mirecourt 1927.
Leon Mougenot was born in 1874 and established himself in Mirecourt after working for Blanchard, Jombar, and Hill and Sons, among many other prominent makers. He frequently collaborated with other prominent luthiers of his time. His instruments are known for their superior workmanship and varnish. This violin shows off the classic Mougenot varnish, and is offered with a certificate from Dalton Potter. Available for trial via shipping or in our showroom.
This violin is by Jules Grandjon, Mirecourt c. 1860.
After working in Amsterdam and Paris, Jules Grandjon returned to his birthplace of Mirecourt around 1850 to establish a successful workshop. He won a number of medals throughout his life, and this violin is a fine example of his work, accompanied by a certificate from VATELOT-RAMPAL. Charles Jean-Baptiste Collin Mézin père is one of the most noted French luthiers of the 19th century. He was born at Mirecourt in 1841, son of violin maker C.L. Collin, and followed in his father’s footsteps and training with a very successful career in Paris. During his most productive three decades, he won numerous gold and silver medals at the Paris Exhibitions and his instruments were played by many leading soloists of the day. He was a purist in wood treatment, rejecting chemicals and artificial processes that other makers employed in the construction of an instrument. This violin, built in 1912, offers a bright powerful sound, and is accompanied by a certificate from VATELOT-RAMPAL. Available for trial via shipping or in our showroom.
This violin is labeled Ch. J.B. Collin-Mezin, Paris 1921
Born in 1870, Charles Collin-Mézin fils was trained by his father, Charles Jean-Bapiste Collin-Mézin père, and worked in Paris, Mirecourt, and the United States throughout his career. This instrument features a golden spruce top, a two-piece maple back with angled flame, and is signed in the interior. Available for trial via shipping or in our showroom.
Violin labeled Amédée Dieudonné, Mirecourt 1923
A pupil of Gustave Bazin, Amédée Dieudonné established his shop in Mirecourt in the 1920s after working in Brussels for the Darché firm. His replicas of Italian instruments were particularly celebrated, and he crafted instruments for firms such as Moenning, Wurlitzer, Millant, and others.
