Violin labeled Edward Withers, 22 Wardour Street, London
Born in London in 1844, Edward Withers was trained by his father as well as John Lott, and was notably appointed maker to the Duke of Edinburgh in 1893. In addition to making Stradivari and Guarneri copies, he invented the “prepared hollow soundpost” and “tubular bass bar.” These innovations never caught on, and thus do not appear on this instrument. This fine violin is available for trial in our showroom or via shipping.
