Misha Parchenov immigrated to the United States from the Soviet Union in 1982, and at the time was carving jewelry for a New York designer. He enrolled at the North Bennett Street school of violin making and worked in several workshops in the Northeast United States before opening his own in Ridgefield, Connecticut.
