Raymond Melanson studied violin and bow repair at the University of Rhode Island under the tutelage of Hans Nebel and Arnold Bone after studying arts and violin performance at the University of Lowell in MA. He went on to study violin making at the Violin Making School of America in Salt Lake City, where he studied with Peter Prier. He continued to work with Peter Prier after graduating from the VMSA.
Raymond went on to become one of the founding members of the North Bennet Street School for violin making and repair in 1983 in Boston, where he taught for four years. Raymond now runs his own workshop in Rochester, MA.
